A “Jíbaro” is a Spanish word from the Caribbean for “country person” which reflects simplicity, honesty, and conviction. Guzman’s music not only reflects these qualities but is an excellent mirror into the Puerto Rican mind.
Guzman melds traditional folk melodies played on the Puerto Rican cuatro (similar to a small guitar) with jazz and pop sensibilities. Guzman’s performance at the C-Note will include a four piece band playing the cuarto, the guitar, the guiro, and the Bongo.
